Even a simple carport will cost a decent sum. You don't want it to fall in, and guidelines must be met.

My husband built a shelter for a workshop. He started with an 18 x 20 covered carport. He actually dug a foundation, lay concrete blocks and built the carport in the concrete blocks. he then poured concrete into the blocks. After the concrete dried and set up, he bought the same color of metal that the roof was made of and sheeted the outside walls. after this stage, he framed in the inside and built interior walls. the only thing he did not do but wished he had was to pour a concrete floor. his still has a dirt floor and we just have never got around to pouring the floor. Good luck, hope this gives you some ideas.
  • Sure you can, but inexpensive is a relative term. Attaching a shed roof to the side of your house could cost around $900 - $1,000 dollars, to have it done right. But if you get into site work, foundation, and enclosing part or all of it the costs go up to $5,000 - $10,000, depending on the materials, if you do it yourself, and if you try to adhere to local building codes.
