Get rid of the wallpaper, paint a sea foam green or pale blue. Strip that cabinet to raw wood, or paint white. When I think lake, I think sandy colors, blues and greens, white, woven materials like wicker baskets and soft fluffy towels in a mix of those colors, something that brings the outdoors in, like some sort of tree/leaf decor. I don't know about everyone else, but lake and woods are kind of a go-together kind of thing for me, but I wouldn't want too much "woods" or you may as well have a forest decor
Lake inspired would be less "beachy" and more about boats, oars, wildlife, and fishing. I like the classic components in your bathroom and would probably keep the lake connection low-key with one or two prints of lake views or boats on lakes, vintage fish or lake bird prints. Maybe a small piece of driftwood on the counter top or a duck decoy or carved bird..

Have fun!
You think the colors already on the wall are too bold. You need a white slate.
My nautical bathroom ended up on Houzz. I hope it inspires you! http://www.tooinspiredtosleep.com/2016/08/guest-bathroom-blah-beachy/
Strip wallpaper, paint pale blue or sea green, paint cabinets white or gray (with counter top a true white might not be ideal) frame mirror in shabby distressed white/cream board by either getting some cheap pallet boards for free or buy 1 x 4 's to put a wide frame. I would try to replace that 90's lighting bar if you can afford to replace. Replace with new or find a home resale store or FB resale Group. Then shop end of summer sales for cute accent pieces or find driftwood or other items in nature.
Great ideas! Thanks so much.
