Adding a little spook factor is always fun for Halloween! I transformed a hardware cloth frame destined for the trash pile, by adding a spooky sign, along with some crows, pumpkins and bittersweet vine, to decorate the back door of my Potting Shed for a Happy Haunting!
My Potting Shed, along with its spooky sign on the back door of my shed, was featured in Better Homes and Gardens special publication, Halloween Tricks & Treats Magazine in the Spellbinding Outdoor Decorations section.
To decorate the back door, I started with this hardware cloth frame that was pretty shabby when I rescued it from the trash heap several years ago. To transform it to hang a sign on the Potting Shed door, I added some vintage garden tools, along with a pair of clay pots and a rake head. The clay pots were wired through the hole in the bottom and I used s-hooks and drapery pins to securely hang the tools from the hardware cloth.
I added a spooky sign I picked up at a flea market a couple of years ago: *Beware of creepy witches, black cats, and spooky bats!*
In addition to the vintage garden tools and pots, Indian corn, grapevine and bittersweet vine, mini pumpkins and crows were added, for some seasonal fall color. The vines add some dimension and frame the sign.
Fall is my favorite season and I look forward to adding some fall color with pumpkins and mums. I cut some lespedeza branches and placed them in watering cans to enjoy a pop of golden fall color around the Potting Shed.
Mini pumpkins sit on the ledge of the frame and are tucked into the clay pots that are wired and hanging by s-hooks on the frame. Indian corn is still bundled and tied with rafia from the grocery store. The rafia is hooked by drapery pins to hang the corn from the frame.
You can see more pumpkins, mums and find a fall harvest around the Potting Shed, here.
