What would you do with these pieces I found?

This one will require a bit more work. There is a crack in the seat. There is also a missing spindle. I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do about that since I think it will be hard to find an exact match. A lone "odd" spindle will add more character to this antique anyway, don't you think? Then I just have to cut off that string and paint. I'll probably stay with the whole "chippy antique distressed" effect it has going now.

Remove and re-glue the seat or add a flat bracket joining the two pieces then cover the whole thing. And "Outwater" sells spindals and surely you can get a match fairly inexpensively. OR repurpose it. Turn it upside down! Put wheels on the seat turn it over and put your wrapping paper in it.

sand restain 1920ish mag. stand and plant stand w/painted sunflower seat!
  • Super finds, Erica! There's character in those treasures, but some tweaking is a good call on your part. The chippy and gorgeous blue seat of the stool is a keeper-great integrity. If you do not want to fix the blemish (glue and clamp) I would label the crack/split a character crack and go with it. Fresh coat the legs, replace the spindle and smooth out the bottom of each legs with a light sanding.

the magazine holder would look great done up with a MacKenzie Childs kind of paint job. Happy, vicbrant colors would give it a new life.

Great finds! A good cleaning and then finish the stool off the top with a mosiac. These stools make wonderful little tables. I have one in my master suite bathroom where I put the cell phone chargers!

I would use Plaster Plaint..any color, but the magazine rack would look stunning in Sweet Cream! No sanding, priming or stripping required...just paint! It also costs 1/3 less than chalk paint, etc. Here's some info about it: http://sweetpeascharm.com/1/post/2014/02/get-plastered-with-sweet-peas-charm.html

You could cut the legs down and take the stool apart to replace the missing spindle with one of the extra you now have. Staple a home made shag rug on top with some batting or the remains of an old pillow and you have a footstool. Magazine rack could be turned into a kindling holder or doggie toy box by lining the 2 sections with burlap or denim. Whatever you decide to do be sure to post pictures. I love your work.
