Hi we have a huge fireplace in our living room made out of unique brick work but it has gotten dull and dark. I really don't want to paint it Looking for ideas to spruce it up.

If your chimney has smoked into the room, clean the bricks with some bleach and water. Then polish with furniture polish but not wax. It looks like this will be a big job on a high ladder. If the big black stones need more highlighting, mix some mica in with about one pint of liquid polyethylene sealer. Change your lighting to focus more on the black rocks or some other special area. Change the hardware if you wish. The gold is out of style, supposedly, but other metalics are in. Best wishes šš

Clean the wall first and then lighten the large dark stones only.
Look to Fix a Bracket Mantel Shelf and use that to Display Flowers and or Candlesticks
Try to paint the yellow brick a metallic brown and use the same spray paint on the gold ,use one or more shelves for display.
