I have oak cabinets that I want to look like old wood. Suggestions?

old like weathered? paint them with a white or gray, then scrub most of the paint off (a technique similar to 'liming'
old like antiqued/darkened? same trick, but with a dark color (blue, black, brown...)
old like some body took tire chains to them to 'age' them?
old like driftwood? that's a job for chalkpaint, or a 'big' painting project...and I have reservations about chalk paint in high-traffic areas.
