You can get spray paint for metal at the local home improvement or even walmart stores. You would need to disassemble the bed and do it outside while the weather is still fairly nice in the fall.

I would paint it black. Then I would use crisp white linens and bedding with it. It really is very pretty. Plus it's an awesome family heirloom.
