Sounds like mold? check under the sink, I just did this with new clients home today.... wet and moldy under kitchen sink, stunk to high you know what. As a former apt. manager, another source is mold from leaky hose under dishwater, and also under and behind frig. All prime areas for mold.

If it isn't from under the sink, which you should smell when you stick your nose in there, It may be coming up from your pipes. Put about a quarter cup baking soda into the drain. Follow up with about a cup of vinegar. Let that sit and foam for about ten minutes or so, so it can do its work. Follow up with about a gallon of boiling water. If you have a double sink, do both sides as it could be coming from the disposal side too. The vinegar is a great antibacterial and antifungal agent that should take care of mold or mildew in the pipes. The vinegar also fights odors very well. I hope this helps your odor problem.

Try pouring a cup of baking soda into your drain and then pour two cups of plain white vinegar in the drain. Let it sit for several minutes, and then run clear water for a minute to completely rinse everything. The vinegar and baking soda will fizz and foam and help remove any build-up, etc that is stuck in the drainpipes causing bad smells. If this doesn't work, you may have a plumbing issue that needs to be checked by a plumber.
