When you get a paint card at the store, it has from 3 to 5 different hues of the same color in different intensity. All the colors on the paint card will coordinate.

If your furniture is earth tones, consider that many earth tones will go quite nicely with certain colors of blue. Teal, aqua, etc., come to mind, as well as softer blues. I guess I'd start with looking through magazines/websites for rooms that use blue, especially those that have earth tone furnishings. Then get some paint samples (lots of stores now sell little sample jars) and try them out.

I always start by picking out some paint swatches from the paint store. Put them up on the wall and see what initially catches your eye. Try the swatches in different rooms. When you pick a few you like have some samples made. Paint on the wall and look at them at differ times of the day in different lights. That should help you decide what you like. To finish the job, pull the color into some of the accents in the room.
