Do hinges and handles have to match?

I am replacing bronze handles on my honey oak cabinets with brushed stainless hardware. The hinges blend in with the honey oak. Do I need to replace them with stainless.

  • Not necessarily. If it looks good to you then it works!

Maybe post a photo so we have a better idea?

Mixing metals is certainly ok. I have seen it done in model homes-not necessarily hinges and handles, but between faucets and handles. I agree with Naomie, if you like it, it works.

You don't NEED to do anything - do what you LIKE! There are no hard and fast rules in decorating --- first is function, next is taste (yours). If the new handles look good with the hinges, then keep them. Wait a little bit, and if you want to change them out later, then do it.

Yes because your eye will go right to that miss- matched hardware, it’s like when you enter a bathroom and the sink is aqua and toilet pink you notice it right away. Spray paint works wonders and it comes in hammered look in many colors , just a suggestion Option.

Start by looking at the cabinets, with the way they are. It should be uniform color, for handles and hinges. The stainless is more expensive, but they won't rust, and you don't have to paint them. I would use stainless on all. It will look more professional, it adds contrast to your honey oak cabinets.
