I bought a mask at the Dollar Tree that I thought was quite colorful but I had no idea what I wanted to do with it. After getting it home I remembered I had a glass Cloche or bell jar with fairy lights inside. At first I thought of making some sort of display inside with the mask but then I came up with a different way to view a spooky scene!
Unfortunately the Dollar Tree was out of those spooky pictures but I found one on sale at Michael’s. These are the ones you look at of a normal couple but at a slight turn of your head they become skeletons! You’ll also need black Acrylic paint.
Gather your materials
You’ll need a glass Cloche or a large glass jar. Mine comes with fairy lights attached to the base but you can purchase fairy lights everywhere. You will need a mask. Pretty or scary, whatever you choose. Place the mask over the Cloche. If the mask slips tie a knot in the back elastic like I had to do. Take a sharpie and draw where the eye holes are , using the mask as your template. Draw directly on the glass. Remove the mask. Now take your picture inserting it into the glass and cutting to size. You will round the picture to fit inside. Remove.
Draw eye holes on to glass.
Now with black acrylic paint and your foam Pouncer or dauber paint the entire outside of the glass EXCEPT for the eye holes. The Pouncer is great because it leaves a great texture and you will have no brush marks! Also, and this is a plus, when Halloween is over, soak your Cloche in hot soapy water and all the paint will come off with minimum rubbing.
Now let this completely dry.
All black except for eye holes.
Now you can decide if you want to embellish your mask, add trim to the bottom
add a hat, or anything else. I went with pretty, so the assumption would be most likely a similar scene inside but you’ll be fooled to see something S P O O K Y!
There’s so many themes you can use for this. And many things to even put inside. Have fun with it!!
Once dry, insert picture, placing the fairy lights behind the picture. My picture fit inside rolled without using tape. You could use double stick if needed. Now add your mask over it’s open eyes! Add your trims and anything else you choose. Now turn on the lights! The glowing eyes beckon you over! Put it up high so your guests can look right into the mask!
Waiting for you to look inside.
BOO! Its a S P O O K Y sight they’ll see!
Looking into one eyehole!
Enjoy you’re unexpected Spooky looking glass!
