Yes you can use Rustoleums or Gianni countertop restoration kits
Lowes, Home Depot, Menards all have kits that are made to redo countertops and they come in a variety of colors and look really good and hold up amazingly well!!
Our counter also was formica, in a horrid orange-yellow color. Our handyman got something from Lowe's that allowed us to totally clean the formica, spread glue on it a little along, and cover the glue with some kind of sand-like stuff. It's been on for six years now and it still looks great. We had so much left over that we also did the top of an old credenza we bought from a school that was closing, and then (without consulting me) my husband and the handyman did the kitchen and laundry room FLOOR! I was horrified, but the stuff has lasted this long and doesn't seem to want to come off. I don't know what it is called, but someone in the kitchen area at Lowe's should know.
Before you buy a kit, I suggest that you do some research on painting countertops. There are a lot of great ideas online. Just use your search engine and type in 'diy paint countertop '. Read as much as you can and watch youtube.com videos. Some will be the kits, but some will not. By doing this research you'll be able to make a more informed decision based on what YOU want.
Rust-Oleum and others make exactly what you need.
