How to paint kitchen cabinets

Sand them down to natural wood being careful not to sand in one place too long to keep wood leveled smooth. Always sand with the grain. Clean and wipe down to remove any dust left from sanding. Should be ready to paint.

Start with cleaning them really well. You can use TSP if they are grimy.

Then electric sand it in the direction of the grain only (or if no grain, then in the direction that the grain would go). Clean that off.

Wipe it down with white rubbing alcohol.

I recommend PPG/Porter Paints Advantage 900 paint, in semi-gloss sheen. It is very, very durable.

Buy quality, soft, brushes for acrylic paint.

Put thin coats on, and let each coat dry overnight.

In the end, once the color has built up sufficiently, you will not need to put a sealing poly coat on.

Paint takes 30 days to fully cure, but you can use your kitchen lightly after a week.

IF your weather is wet for very long, then you will need even longer before you use it.
