Have you tried vinegar? It works on hard water. Then if you get it of, wax the walls with car wax, and it should bead off.

What is it made out of? If fiberglass you can use Whink Rust Remover. Wear gloves and vent the room if possible. Once you have it really clean you can dilute it with another cleaner like Mr. Clean say, half and half. Put it in a spray bottle and spray the walls. DO NOT use it on porcelain. DO NOT get it on stainless steal, and do not get it on nickle or any other metal except chrome. Cleans the shiny chrome like new!! When the walls are bad and you wipe a rag over them you can hear it and feel it. Once you have them clean you won't hear it anymore and it will slide. I will not be responsible for any damage done to other surfaces!! I learned the hard way.
