How do I "create" an inexpensive foyer for my living room?

Our 1957's brick ranch has a living room/dining room combo, but no entry foyer. When you open the front door, you step directly into the living room. To the right of that is a large picture window. Directly across from the window is a fireplace. As you walk in, you face a long wall that is located next to that fireplace.

    Hello Patricia! Many homes lack an entryway. Our first home did, too. My husband built a see-through divider, wall-to-ceiling, basically a shelving unit on which we placed colored glass and knick knacks. It was erected perpendicular to the front door. The see-through style allowed the light from the large picture window to shine through. If your living room is large enough, you could even erect two and have them parallel to the front door — one on each side of the front door.
