You can use either acrylic or oil. The paint however, whatever you use, acrylic or oil, will scratch off from the dog's claws. You will need to use several coats of polyurethane. Good luck.

Use Kiltz paint to kill any pet odor first. Then at least 2 coats of paint or more to get a hard finish, lastly apply a clear sealer. Pet toe nails are hard on any floors. Keep their nails trimmed. You might want to consider a tough lineolum.
