Turning a 3 or 4 drawer chest into a kitchen island.

I want to turn a 3 or 4 drawer chest into a kitchen island with a butcher block top. I want an overhang for stools. The overhang side will be heavier, and I'm worried it could cause the island to tip over. I've thought about screwing legs to the overhanging butcher block edge, but will they stay stable over time? I worry that there will be accidental kicks to the legs while people are getting on or off the stools.
