What is wrong with the walls?

If you are wanting to repair nail holes in drywall, fill them with spackle (using a putty knife), allow to dry and then wipe smooth with a damp lint free cloth.

If there are big holes you will need to make a drywall patch, tape the edges, & then fill with drywall mud.

If you have crumbling drywall, you will want to remove it, find and repair the leak, and then put up new drywall.

If this didn’t cover what you need, please send pictures with descriptions of the things needing repair for a better answer.

    I hope that helps

Spackle the small imperfections, tap back nail pops that come through the sheetrock slightly. Make sure the walls are smooth, you should sand the spackle. Use a sponge to clean any dirty spots with a little dish detergent. Use painter's tape, and I swear by Glidden paint. Don't by a paint with a primer. Two coats of flat, if that's the finish you want. Good Luck!

You're going to need to sand them first
