I had a vinyl tile put down in my kitchen the carpenter used particle board under it now after a few months the particle board is rising in places due im sure to mop water that has seeped between the tiles I am trying to figure out how to make the floor look better without tear it all up Its a small kitchen so id like to use some sort of self leveling product but need it to seal well to prevent water doing more damage and looking worse

the only thing you might try, we had to do that s to ours. Not tearing up a perfectly good floor and all, use a small screw and screw it down. Ours is dark so the screw didn’t show that bad.

  • How much water are you putting on the floor?

Sorry to say but over saturating the tile is you issue and at this point there are no options but to replace the floor

Being particle board, it doesnt take much water to start the damage. You can pop the tile out and paint that area with an exterior flat paint and once dry, reglue or replace that tile. Otherwise the water damage will continue and most likely advance to other nearby tiles.

I agree here with Julie, It takes very little water to the damage. Particle board should never be used for a floor. But she is right the floor needs to be painted with a good exterior paint to help seal the floor. You can also buy a bond enhancer to put down before you put the tile back down. Henry 336 Bond enhancer self-stick tile primer is a good one.

Particle board should have never ever been used . Particle board soaks up water like a sponge. Your only true solution it to tear it out.
