DIY Porch Welcome Sign

I love looking at homeowners' decorated front porches. I've always wanted to decorate my front porch, but in actuality, my home's front "porch" is just a stoop! So I came up with decor that has big impact, but a little footprint. With just a few supplies I already had on hand, I created a beautiful and sweet standing fall welcome sign.
I started with one ¼ in. x 3 ft. x 4 ft. oak board. I stained it a walnut color. I used some letter stencils I had and some leftover Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint to stencil "Welcome" onto my board. (I drew my letters onto the board with a pencil before painting them on.)
I used a glue gun to glue on some burlap fall leaves and some wooden faux acorns from Oriental Trading onto my sign. (I had first acquired the leaves and acorns to decorate my home's console table.)
I really like how my DIY welcome sign turned out. I propped it against my home in the corner of my front porch, so it doesn't take up much room. I added a pretty blue lantern and some colorful mums that I potted.
I think the DIY welcome sign adds a lot of fall flavor to my home's front porch in just a little space! I'm thinking of creating other DIY signs for my home's front porch for other seasons, too.
The great thing is that if I make a Christmas or winter-themed welcome sign, I can just paint or stencil the theme on the back of my fall DIY welcome sign!

In my day we used real acorns and varnished them...think we put in a low oven for a time to insure no insects would invade the. Your idea of the fake acorns would solve all the above problems and much faster to finish project. I dont brouse the hobby stores anymore but sure they have come up with a varity of wonderful things.

I think the board could be adjusted to any size. Love your completed work! I've to do this one.
