Old 9 paned windows

Any ideas of what to do with some old window frames with 9 glass panes. I'm thinking of decoupage or old photos...

Do you have a picture of them? Might help visualize. ;)

What an open question! I've seen some beautiful shabby chic photo frames made from old windows. I've also seen reverse painting or even use vinyl lettering on the front with decoupage bird silhouette on the back. AND I've seen some wonderful stained glass mosaic ideas done with colored glass gems (usually found in the floral department of craft stores and Walmart). OR go French country and use mirror paint on the glass panes...makes a shabby/vintage looking mirror. Loads of people are also using chalk board paint now too....perhaps mirror one or two, photos in some, and chalkboard paint or peel and stick in the rest....Could be an interesting display!

You could hang them from the ceiling as room dividers and decorate them with family pictures, or leave see-through. Adding pictures and hooks create an entryway coat hanging system. Or, you could add flower boxes for your porch.

Wow, thanks Bonnie! I like the mirror paint idea! I priced it once to repair a mirror...have you used it? If so...supplier? I also thought about making them to fit on wooden boxes, and hinge them. I have some old stair posts that could act as legs...I would hinge the window to the box, and I thought of using as jewelry display! :)

@Tija Be sure to check the length of those pane windows before making tables. If they are very long then you will want extra bracing to the box AND inside the box for the "lid". Otherwise it will eventually sag in the middle and you could have panes and the wooden separators to loosen and fall out! I personally haven't used the mirror paint yet but I bought a spray can of Krylon Colormaster metallic silver paint to use on some glass jars for the same effect. There's loads of how-to ideas on Pinterest for making the aged mirror effect. Sheesh, I have enough aged mirrors that I don't need that :)

    :) Thanks for the input! The window panes aren't very big...maybe 24 x 30

@Tija I have been seeing something fun recently ~ even a bit "trendy". Since you have a 9 paner why not attach pix for a "Brady Bunch" style family/pet display? What fun!
