Loving to sew, I am always looking at old clothes for beautiful fabrics to reuse. Good places to find these clothes are at Goodwill Stores, Salvation Army and Yard Sales.
I had been shopping for fabrics one day at the Goodwill Store and was in need of a couple of unique lampshades to replace the damaged ones I had. I had already been to all the familiar stores to buy new ones with no luck.
The ones I saw were either too plain, not worth the price or just not much to choose from at all.
Thought I would have to sew a cover for them instead.
I did find a square shaped one for $2.00 to recover. While at the. Ash register I was paying for the small skirts I had picked out for the beautiful cotton fabric, I looked at the square Lampshade I was purchasing and Idea Idea Idea??? I had damaged lampshades and could not find one I liked and the prices were too high. I went to the Goodwill Store in my area and looked at the skirts and found the sizes that fit my shades.
It was fun because I sew and I love fabrics such as cotton, Victorian look fabrics, lace, and etc..
Sometimes I get used clothing and reuse the fabric for different things.
A Good Will, Salvation Army Store, Thrift & Consignment Stores and yard sales are good places to find skirts for your lamps. Don't forget to take your shade with you to try its skirt on!

Where did you find the suitcase lamp? It is adorable and would work perfectly in a "travel" room I am working on.

No. I'd be afraid of starting a fire! That actually happened to a neighbor of mine a while back. Cloth, if you haven't noticed, is not used for lamp shades.

    • most of the shades in my house are either silk or linen... they sell them that way- And my mom's lamps are mostly all fabric. I think all as long as there is enough air flow between the bulb and shade, it's ok.
