These photos are of a townhouse that were just starting work on.

The owner went away and thought they could keep their house plant watered by keeping it in sink in master bedroom. They left the water on to just a few drops every so often, or so they thought. Dirt overflowed plugging drain. Basement had over four feet of water in it. Lost every floor in first floor, half of 2nd floor where sink was located. and a good amount of their personal furnishings because of mold growth. Took place in two weeks.

We were brought in because someone told the contractor who started the project that this may be unhealthy place to have his unprotected workers in. So he walked off the job. Ya think that there may be some mold here somewhere? This is going to cost the owner around $60 grand to fix.

wow, it's amazing what a little water can do over time. Thanks for sharing, and show us the progress pics. I always recommend to my clients to shut off the water before leaving for any length of time, this is exactly why.

Yes the insurance will be covering most of It. But the fraud dept is getting involved. As you can know most insurance companies do not cover mold issues. The reason is that many people have "cooked" their own homes to get big insurance claims in the past. And as you can see its not to hard to do a lot of damage and make it look like an accident. And because they put a plant under a sink to keep it wet, from my understanding there looking at the fraud part of this issue. But I think they ...»
will end up paying anyway, just be cause of the age of the people who live in there. Late 60's have money and no reason to do this to their own place.

A small drip/leak can be far more damaging than many homeowners realize. A prime reason to get things fixed ASAP. Good luck with the job!

Maybe next time they will hire the neighbor kid to come water the plant twice a week...and pay him 20 bucks or so...All of that hardwood destroyed...and people wonder why I recommend tile in kitchens....a little water + a little time = big mess

I got to dig them out, but I did a house near Cape May a few years ago abd took a few hundred photos, Client had one of those counter top water units attached to fauct and the plastic hose cracked while they were away. Almost lost the entire house. Moisture was so bad that it soaked the insulation in walls and rotted the sheating from the inside out. Water ran for what they thought was about a month.
