I would like to put a tub wall surround around my bathtub.

It currently has tile on half the wall. Do I need to remove the tile before installing the wall surround? If so what is the easiest and fastest way to remove the tile?

Tub surrounds can sometimes be installed over existing tile, but only when conditions are right. The old tile area needs to be smaller than the kit and you'll need to build up the surrounding wall to the level of the tile, usually with 1/4-in. drywall. All things considered, removing the tiles is often a better option.

    Hi Marie,

The "easiest and fastest" way to remove the tile is to rip out the wallboard behind it (probably drywall). The tile will come out with the wallboard still attached to it. Of course that means you then have to replace the wallboard, but, since you plan on installing a surround in there anyway, you don't need to be all that particular on how it looks. This might be a good opportunity to try ...»

your hand at some drywall without fear of what the end result looks like.
