Are there flat tiles equal/better than ceramic tubes for desert roofs?

We're considering changing our tube-shaped roofing tiles for a flat shingle appearance . Is there a product that will have similar or better protection from the desert heat (Phoenix area)? Are there flat tiles that collect solar energy?
