I love tumbled travertine tile, and I really like the big 18″ tiles. My pocketbook forbade me from even thinking about a travertine tile floor in what is a fairly sizable master bathroom. And although I have laid (a lot) of tile in the past, its hard work, and rank’s right up there with a mammogram on my list of fun things to do. Then one day I was at Lowe’s and saw a display of what I thought was travertine. Only it wasn’t….it was vinyl tile, with grout. Matte finish, embossed, it even felt a bit like the real deal. And at less than $1.50 a square foot, I walked out the door with (way more than) enough to tile the bathroom, some vinyl tile grout, and every expectation of having a new floor by dinner.
The finished "travertine" floor. I think I like the vinyl even better than tile, it's not as cold!
The hardest part of the job was removing the carpet, tile in front of the tub, and old linoleum. Would have been an easy job sans linoleum
Peel and stick tiles that cut with scissors make this job fairly simple to do!
premixed vinyl tile grout gives the floor the look of authentic tile!
