The tree needs to be between 2-3’ tall, so that it is twice as high than the tallest figures. It’s really easy if you use a yardstick or a fat dowel. You can set it in a shallow pot filled with rocks and sand. Paint the stick brown. Cut an 8” x 12” piece of brown felt or craft foam into 1” tall strips. Then cut each strip into random brown triangles. Starting at the bottom, cover the stick with glued on triangles, one row at a time. When you get to the top, go back to the bottom. Glue another row of brown triangles between the first two rows, but with the points between the points of the row above. Keep going up to the top again.

Then cut a sheet of dark green felt or craft foam into three long strips, about 2 1/2” tall. Cut a piece of medium green felt the same way. Out of cardboard, cut a 4” tall pattern of a palm leaf no wider than the strips you cut. Then use the template to trace and cut out three palm leaves from each strip. Glue the medium and dark green leaves in random order, starting about 6” from the top, going up one row at a time, to the top. If you had any brown triangles left, cut a few into rough circles to be coconuts at the top of the palm tree.

Best wishes with your nativity scene. 😇

Cut a piece of pvc pipe the appropriate height for your figures. Wrap it with green or brown or Tan garland. With green garland, make loops for the palm fronds and stuff into the top hole of the pvc. Bend the wire of the garland loops to a point at the tips so it looks like one loop makes one palm frond and arrange the loops so they hang down a little. It looks best if they are not all the same length. You can put the tree into an old Christmas tree stand and drape metallic mesh around the bottom and crush it to fit around the base. You could paint or stain the pvc pipe or wrap with Crepe paper streamers as an alternative if you can’t find tan garland.

You could check hobby shops that carry train supplies for those that have a hobby of trains. They have many different trees, etc. for the set ups the train hobbyist makes.
