Will a concrete ramp into a cellar flood the cellar?

I have a set of steps coming out of a half basement or cellar. There is a sharp right angle from the door, and the steps parallel the outer wall. I want to break down the retaining wall in front of the door way and turn it into a concrete slope or ramp going directly into the cellar landing at the base of the steps and directly through the door and into the basement. This would give me a more direct access in stead of turning out the door and going up and down the steps. for wagons, wheel barrels etc. without trying to maneuver the hair pin turn out the door at the base of these steps. As well as the bouncing of the tires on each step.

  • I absolutely get what you are trying to accomplish. You would need to install some sort of a drain to avoid flooding. I would call out contractors for bids or if nothing else, bend their ear for suggestions on how to accomplish efficiently.

Sure, this would be fine. As long as the weather isn't too cold yet to do this, go ahead. You didn't say what state you are in, so this depends on the winter temps. This winter will be a diff. temps than usual. Best wishes, J.

If you want to avoid flooding, be sure you use draino every month down your sewers, in every mo. The trees are still growing and the roots are busy, and this will prevent any root problems. If you don't want to use draino, ask at the dollar store, for this will help too. J.

I'd consult a contractor, first. You might need a dry-well or drainage at the bottom of the slope, too.
