Open up inner seams to see what you have to work with. It may be necessary to add or take a way a bit of fabric. Tack together and see if it would fit...........

One way is to open all of the seams of the jeans and then stitch them into lengths of fabric and then use a skirt pattern.

I made and wore one in high school. Just not long. I wore it with a choker, dangling earrings, a black leotard and black tights. And a pair of clogs! Ahhhh

You need 2 pairs of jeans. Take the pair that fits best on the waist and hips as your "base" skirt. Slit the seams by cutting on the backmost side of the welts --the side of the seam that will be closest to your behind. Cut the second pair of jeans off at the crotch, and around the back, taking care not to slice through the pockets (you may want them). Cut open the leg seams by cutting alongside the welts, not through them. This is your "gore" fabric. You will now have 4 pieces of "leg" cut from the gore fabric. Turning all the fabric inside-out. Starting at the bottom of the "Base skirt," pin the welt-free cut ends of the gore fabric to the welt seams of the base skirt, overlapping the welt by one inch to create a seam allowance. Repeat until you've got all gores attached along their sides. You will have extra gore fabric at the top. Now, fold the seam allowances, in half and repin. At the top of each gore trim excess gore to leave a 1" seam allowance. Fold it down twice, clipping the corners so they aren't too thick to sew through. Turn the skirt right-side out, and stitch through the welt seams first, then the folded seams. Then double-stitch all seams. From the top of the gore skirt (and its pockets) you can easily stitch the bottom leg openings to create a matching purse (use an old leather belt through the loops), or, cut off the pockets and apply them at odd places on your skirt. Happy hippiedom!
