We used a decorative mesh that we picked up at a local home improvement store. Initially I installed with zip ties till I had my gate guy come out to install something better. I bought bricks to line the inside edges, as my dog was only 3.5 pounds and skinny when I rescued her and she could have shimmied her way out underneath the gate.
Don't know the style or type of material gate you have, but maybe a door sweep at the bottom would work.
Or maybe build up a little cement or brick retainer wall for the gate to close up against.
If he/ She is escaping underneath, slice a pool noodle open along the length the size of your gates. Slip it on the bottom of the gate and we use with zip ties. Works for small opeings. Note: pool noodles.come in various sizes, available at the dollar stores in the summer. HtH
Slice a pool noodle along the length to fit your gate length. Use one on each gate. Slip over the "escape area", bottom and or sides of the gate, and secure with zip ties. Pool noodles come in various thicknesses and usually available at the dollar stores in the summer.sometimes you .can find the zip ties there too. HTH
How big is the gap? How wide is the gate? What kind of gate is it?
maybe a piece of wood, plastic, rubber or metal. How you attach it would depend on the gate.
Fix a piece of plastic or Vinyl flooring to the gate.
Hi Marian, you can buy cheap plastic border fencing that you can buy one piece for a couple dollars. Buy 2 pieces one for one side and one for the other side. Wire these fence piece as close to the bottom as possible. To further the look you can wire long stem plastic flowers or greenery just slightly below the edge of the border fencing to look like a garden from the entry side or street side. I know your little baby is very smart but i am sure they would not be able to find a space to crawl through
Is it a wood gate? I just used an extra 1x3" or 4' inch board cut to fit across and screwed to bottom of gate so it just sweeps the ground.
I have also used the plastic fencing applied to bottom of cattle metal gates, predrill and screw in up sides and on top edge..,, http://www.truevalue.com/thumbnail/Lawn-Garden/Fencing-Edging/Poly-Fencing/pc/10/c/142/3063.uts run a piece of wood 1/2 x 1 or a heavy wooden down across the bottom weaving in and out the poly holes....
My dachshunds could squeeze through the corners of the gates. I bought a length of PVC pipe and attached to the gate using pipe clamps. Not the greatest look but kept my dogs safely in the yard. PVC can be bought in various sizes so you can fill in as needed.
A pool noodle split open lengthwise and cut to the length of the gate would work, attach with zip ties, not the prettiest, but will work.
