How to care for Norfolk pine

Emily
by Emily
We don't want to do a Xmas tree anymore as we go away and no longer entertain. But we do want to have sort of a spirit of Christmas in our house so we decided to buy a Norfolk pine that will hopefully serve the purpose. We bought this at Home depot for $20. Will keep it in the dining room in front of a window that faces west. This would be the sunniest spot. Has anyone had one of these in their homes? We have done research on the net but would like to hear first hand experience if possible. Thanks!

I remember spider mites as a problem once. They really do best outdoors.

Hi! Ive had one, started out 4 in. tall and by the time I donated it to a nusing home it was over 8 feet tall. My dad had to take the ceiling tile out ! They take more water than a pine. It's a tropical plant so no freeking outside. It also has to be turned so it won't lean. If the bottom branches turn brown your not watering enough. Good luck!

Have had them in the past, however they can be difficult if you have no experience in the past. Here is a care guide. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/norfolk-pine/norfolk-island-pine-care.htm

We have had one for three years. Keep it on our dining room table facing west also. It's done great. Water when it becomes dry but do not over water. It does need sunlight during the afternoon. It has grown some but don't know how big it will get.

Have had one for over 6 years. Bought it to use for a Christmas tree. It just will not die. Haha. It works wonderful and easy to care for.

not a lot of sun and very little water (found that out the hard way and had to toss it.) Once you know that, it is easy care and is an awesome plant. Mine sat in a corner w/ light, and little sun. Good luck

I have one also i got it already from another person i did have it outside in the summer but i noticed that the leaves started turning brownish or fade into a brownish color so i brought it inside and ive been leaving it in an area where no sun hits but i have a light that hits it and it seems to do well i do mist it everyday bc i think my house is to dry and i have not killed it and i dont want to either but they are beautiful!!!!
