Wood Paneling into Wainscoting?

Is there any DIY method for transforming wood paneling that is halfway up a wall into tastefully updated wainscoting?

Yes, clean paneling well with TSP and water; fill all the sections between the panel with exterior spackling. Sand smooth. Use a good primer; I use Kiltz on paneling, then paint. Now you have a clean palette to add moulding and chair rail.
You could clean, fill and sand. Then apply wallpaper that looks like wainscotting.
Paint it WITH cHALK PAINT THEN wAX IT....

Just paint it and add trim/molding of your choice. Don't fill in the lines - too much work and once you paint it looks like wood strips.
