Can you use gel stain on a wood floor?

The hardwood floor is in rough shape. It basically has no urethane left on it. Can you use the gel stain and then apply a polyurethane? Has anyone tried this?

Usually you would sand off the whole floor and then stain. Then use a couple coats of poly.

I have not used it personally, but from what I understand you still have to do some amount of sanding. I do know that there are DIYers in my DIY Facebook Group that have done this with success. Here is a link that might help you:http://designeddecor.com/using-gel-stain-over-existing-stained-wood/

  Thank you Cindy! The link was very helpful. I have a few very worn spots (from my son's computer chair) and don't know if the gel stain will make these spots darker than the rest of the floor.

  Maybe use a palm sander for those areas and test the gel stain. I do a lot of furniture refinishing with stain and have got to buy some of this stuff and try it! Like I said in my post above, I know lots of people who love this stuff and it might be the answer for you too.
