Don't do that! Here is a ladder that we purchased to paint our stairs and it does so much more! We bought ours at Home Depot, but they are sold online and other stores too.
I have a stairwell that goes from the floor of the main floor to the ceiling of the second floor. I once took a ladder, braced it on the stair and against the wall to hang a picture. I would NOT recommend that. That picture will probably stay when we move!
I have made temporary scaffolding in my house using a ladder and some planking but I made sure I was not alone in the house!! Please be careful.
