If you are working alone in you work shop it’s letting some know where you are and when to expect you for supper. If you don’t show or call...they will go looking for you.

Follow common rules when working with power tools and if you don't know, have a friend or the hardware store guy explain it to you for each power tool you buy/rent.
I also make sure I have good shoes on, hate when stuff hits my feet and blackened toenails.
Protecting your eyes is also vital. Most people don't realize that looking at a flame or even glowing electric coils, etc. damages your eyes. Wear safety glasses all the time, goggles if you're working with fumes (in an airy, ventilated area, of course). Medical science can replace limbs to a certain degree, but losing your sight or damaging it is permanent.
