  • First who determined the mold and suggested you take the walls and carpet out? If a licensed mold inspector or remediation specialist, then it had better be removed as there is most likely mold behind the walls. If left untreated it can severely compromise the health of you and your family.

if it is not severe, you can cover it with "kilz" paint and then repaint with your regular paint.

Where is the leek? Fix it. You can run an oxygenator machine for several hours (after removing every living thing) and then returning and cleaning up. However if the mold is underneath the carpet or behind the walls...it has to GO!

Getting rid of mold is no easy task, I highly suggest that you call in a professional to survey the problem. Additionally you need to find out why the mold is growing there, that normally indicates that high humidity is trapped in the walls and/or coming through the flooring. I have a home that has a crawl space, I began to experience the same problem that you are having. I called in a pro and they determined that the moisture level in my crawl space was in the high 90% range, that is not acceptable. In the 40% range is suggested. I will not even try to explain what had to be done to correct the problem. If we had not taken action our home would have become uninhabitable and we would have to move out because of the health issues involved. We did correct the problem at a cost just over $10,000, that might seem expensive, but it was much cheaper than building a new home. As I am sitting here writing this I looked at the humidity monitor for the crawl space and it shows 41% and a temperature of 77. My investment paid off. Good luck.

This has to be washed in a specific wash. Ask at the hardware store what to use. It can be done, but in the spring, check the area under the house, and make sure no water is laying there. Best wishes, J.
