Is it necessary to trim my Lantana when they go dormant this winter

I live in the NE, and when I bring my lantana in for the winter I cut it back almost to pot-top level. I water it sparingly all winter until I put it out in the spring. it will grow new leaves and they will last until it goes back outside. I do put it in a LIGHT filled window. it doesn't need sun at this point because it won't bloom.
Here on the Gulf coast we've got ours in the ground. I only remove the dead limbs in spring after it starts blooming.
Not necessary, but more attractive than the dead branches!
I trim mind back and put it in my fruit cellar for winter.
