We have 6" of granite "backsplash" on the wall. Now we would like to do backsplash tile. Would the tile look weird starting above the granite already on the wall?

I think it could look really nice! I’m sure you plan to make it tie in to the granite so it should not look out of place.😊

I would use a glass or metal thin tile between the granite and your new tile which would look like an “on purpose” line in your design. You should do what looks good to you!

Have fun looking, designing, and picking out your new backsplash addition!

It would look good. Pick one or two of the colors from the granite or at least the same tone. Make sure you caulk the transition seam from the granite and tile.

You see many backsplashes done in the tiny tiles above granite. I would look at catalogs or go to home improvement stores and find some kitchen examples with granite similar to yours and find what you like. Home improvement stores sometimes have catalogs for you to skim through to get an idea what you might like.

I agree, that's definitely been done before and it would look nice!

I am doing the same type of transition and have seen some fantastic concepts.. The one that caught my eye was using laminate flooring planks, wood grain, used horizontally, with staggered ceramic or the strips of glass and stone(about 3 to 6 inces wide and the same size as the plank. Staggered to your liking throughout your backsplash. You can use inexpensive flooring plank and splurge a bit for the pretty accent you choose. It is a great idea. Cannot wait to apply it.

That's the "lip" on the counter top and is standard. So, yes, you can start your back splash above the lip.

    Greetings...

What are the chances of removing the backsplashes? It would look more professional and a better design if your new tile started right against the flat counter top. Doubt it the other way won’t be horrible but just not as thought out as the other option. Have you ever considered a cool heavy duty wallpaper? Yes!!! Wall coverings are making a comeback. Don’t know what the rest of your kitchen looks like but there are amazing and fresh new wallpaper looks. Just a thought.
