So we all at some time or another make purchases that we later regret and toss to the side. I did it with this dollar store beach themed picture, it was okay hanging on the wall for a short time as seen below. But as time went on I got sick of it and wanted something a little more original, calmer but still with the beach theme.

So Long Sun Bather

The girl had to go... it basically was just a paper print glued onto an manufactured board. I began peeling the top layer off and sprayed the remnants left behind with water to soak and rub the rest of the backing off the board.

Next came the paint part, I only had linen chalk paint and wanted a blue shade so I added a few drops of acrylic deep blue into a cup along with the linen and got this shade.

Painting a New Shade

Chalk paint covers quite well but I gave it 2 coats because of the dark color of the board I was putting the light color on top of.

Driftwood Stash

Next I went to my driftwood stash that I always try to have on hand to use. I collect, wash and dry all of the pieces in nice weather to have to use whenever the creative mood hits me. I found a letter v in the wood stash....I could spell LOVE! How in the world will I find an O?

Cork Buoy

I had the solution under my nose all along, do you see it in the pic below? It's a vintage fishing buoy I found made out of cork, it was perfect for the letter O!

Glue Letters On

I wanted these pieces to stick to the board well so I used E6000 glue to adhere them perfectly in place.

Prepping for Hanging

I had my husband drill 2 new holes into the board since it was now going to hang horizontally instead of vertically. I wanted a chunky rope to correspond with the chunky letters so I wove a couple of strands together. The ends of the rope I tied knots to cover the existing and newly made holes.

Three Letters Completed

Here's a closeup to show you the cork buoy and the letter v, it was already formed perfectly when I found it. The L was two pieces that seemed to fit together like a puzzle, after I switched enough pieces around I stumbled upon this perfect fit.

Letter E Completed

The letter E proved to be a little more challenging but I made some straight edge cuts with a utility knife to form the letter. I simply love how it turned out, haha couldn't help that it just slipped out. But it certainly made me love the sign once more, oops I did it again!

Finished Look

Signing off here now, I hope you were inspired to create something similar using natural elements. Just take a look around you never know what you'll find to create some custom art with.
