Fixing bed

In love My Queen size sleigh bed but it's starting to fall apart. I don't see any signs of wood rot or damage to any of the wood. What's a quick and inexpensive way to repair or modify the side and bottom rails? I don't want to get rid of it or replace it with another bed.

Sometimes the easiest thing to do... is get a standard metal frame to support the mattress and box springs and then use the sleigh bed to be pretty on the outside.. you can use metal "L" brackets and screws on the inside to re-enforce the corners for strength and stability.

    Or

You could mount the headboard to the wall, use the metal bed frame to support the bed, and turn the foot board into a bench for the foot of the bed.

Maybe joints need strengthening, my old bones do

Without a picture or detailed explanation of the damage.... I will guess what the problem is.....

    1. The joints of the bed where 2 pieces are joined are coming apart, slide it out as far as possible, and put some carpenter's glue on the joint and slide them back together - use some belts or twine, clamps to hold together til it dries.

    2. If its the type that has the side bars that slide into a slot on the head and footboards and there is a pin in there it rests on.... the pin might have broke or come loose. Shine a light in there and see. If it did break, look on the sides for where it was originally drilled, and drill it out using the same size drill bit. Then I cut a piece of the same size dowel or metal rod, and use the carpenter's glue and tap it in with a hammer till its all the way across the slot into the other side of the wood. Let dry and reinsert the side boards.

If the problem is too much weight, then you need to replace the timbers with stronger stuff, otherwise it will happen again..
