To clean, wipe the window with stove glass cleaner, leave for five minutes, then remove with a damp rag. Clean a sooty window on a wood-burning stove withwood ash applied on a damp cloth. Rub away the soot and then wipe with a cleancloth. Best of luck :)

To clean the glass, get a hot fire going with well seasoned hard wood. Keep it going for a couple of hours. Voila, clean glass. And that is the best way to keep your chimney clean. A ripping hot fire every couple of weeks will dry out the creosote before it has a chance to build up.

If you want to clean the ash, make sure the fire is way out. Then scoop the ash into a metal container and set outside. You don't want to completely clean out the ash, it makes a great bed for the next fire.

WE have a wood burning stove in our basement that we use daily in the wintertime. My husband cleans it at the beginning of the season with a liquid stove polish he gets at the hardware store.
