I swear by the garden soil that I use. It is one-third soil, one-third manure and one-third sand. The sand is for water retention. I have had outstanding success with this mix. I don't know anybody in Florida, so I don't what grows well there.

Yes it can be grown in Florida. Use hay bails with soaker hose and plant right down into the bail of hay after soaking and after it grows you can put in anything else to grow. In the winter time spread it out on the yard it's good for the ground and grass. Buy new bails of hay every summer.
Soil with sandy loam in it. Regular potting mix also works.
