I think quartz is more user friendly. GRANITE STAINS AND CRACKS.

Most of the DIY shows use quartz if low maintenance and hard wear is required... it is a man made product and more durable... granite can require yearly sealing and can be broken or cracked more easily. Concrete is another durable surface but may require yearly maintenance..but if it became pitted or chipped it could be refinished.

We put quartz in our kitchen about 10 years ago and are very happy with our choice. We live so far away from anyone who would reseal granite, etc. that I didn't want to have to worry. It is a great material. I believer that to say it is man made is somewhat confusing. The base material is the hard part of granite with a bonding agent to hold everything together. The soft parts of granite are what make it problematic.

They both have pros and cons....both are very durable and beautiful. Quartz is a little easier to care for because it does not need to be sealed periodically like granite does. They both come in a ton of different patterns and colors. Sealing granite is actually very easy....just wipe the sealer on, and wipe it off....sorta like car wax. For me, the biggest advantage of granite is the natural stone look. I love the random patterns and designs it comes in....no two are alike. Quartz definitely has a more man-made artificial appearance....but it is still nice, depending on the look you like.

We remodeled our kitchen about 10 yrs ago. We chose a black marble with shiny quartz like specks in it and I have not regretted it, love the natural stone look. We entertain a lot and have not had any cracks, knock on wood! Whatever you pick make sure you visit many stores and research according to your lifestyle.

Quartz is harder.. you do not need to seal it, granite you do. I personally think that quartz is prettier. Granite , you need to be careful not to put hot stuff on it..and it can stain.

When I did my kitchen remodel I chose wood counters. Three inch thick and beautiful and warm.
