Crazy to Cottage Chic Desk

This was a desk I picked off my neighbors curb with the words FREE attached to it. Free is good! I actually used it in this bright color for many years, because it fit in a little alcove in my daughters room and the color wasn't too awful when the lights were off. We replaced this desk with a one with more drawers for her art supplies and then I just had this crazy blue desk with no real redeeming qualities, except that it had been free. It was time for a makeover in a big way! Nothing some Annie Sloan chalk paint couldn't fix.

A nice coat of Annie Sloan Versailles Green and Cream.
The letter holders came apart nicely which made it so much easier to deal with.
I made my own stencil on my Silhouette Cameo machine and use this awesome embossing cream by Maison Blanche
It smooths on like thick chocolate pudding using a pallet knife
It needs to be thoroughly dry before you can paint over it.
I also added some more dimension in the paint by adding a bronze gold antiquing glaze to certain places.
Here is the embossing painted and sanded. It looks just like carves wood.
She is so much happier now!
