My former boss had a south facing window lined with at least 8 Christmas cactus rhat bloomed year after year. So I would say lots and lots of sun.
It needs sun and a little cold snap (not freezing).

Has to be in a southern exposure window. Mine would not bloom because I didn't think it made a difference but IT does. Also only water about once every two or three weeks. Mine is already budding for the bloom season
Put it in some light, even if under a floor lamp, and it will bloom. They mostly like indirect sunny windows. They also like to be in a warm environment.
