Location is East side of the house on my front porch. It gets morning sun. Sunny for approximately 5 hours. I want flowers for my containers. I've tried Boston ferns, petunias, begonias... nothing does well here. Help! What can I plant?

    What zone are you in?

Usually wave petunias, geraniums and begonias work in pots. I do find buying the larger size plant helpful, the smallest ones often dont do very well.

Sometimes the local coperative extensions are quite helpful with suggestions and care of plants suited to regional climate situations. They are staffed by master gardeners.

Geraniums usually are hardy, and can handle heat and sun

The best thing to do is go your local horticultural place ,explain your problem ,with their local knowledge they are the best people to answer your question ,they may visit your place if asked to see your problem and give you a range of ideas to suit you.

I have Gerber Daisies on the east side of my home and the are planted in the ground. They are annuals but they like my Virginia climate and have come back year after year.

If you are planting in containers you need fresh dirt and to fertilize. You also have to water regularly, sometimes daily.
