How can I make this kitchen island better?

I want to know if maybe I can add some baskets on the side or hooks for mugs, would it look tacky? I also want to paint the bottom black and leave the granite as is. What do yall think?
I think painting it black would look lovely! It would definitely make it more modern etc. I think a row of hooks for mugs then baskets under that would be great! How about a towel bar too? I've also seen them use towel bars plus hooks for more versatile hanging storage.
How about a spice rack on the side? A towel bar to hang a cute kitchen towel would also look nice.

Painting it black would look good... then how about adding some molding to frame the doors and the ends (more of a shaker style) and you could fill the centers with a gorgeous black patterned wall paper maybe with some color in it to pick up the granite color.. or ....say mini bamboo inset, painted black (to add interest and texture)

What color is the granite? I would pick out a color from that and paint the cabinet that color. Add towel bars to left and right side for towels etc. Add castors to bottom of cabinet so that it rolls!
I don't think it would look tacky at all. If it ends up you think it does it would be easy to take down. I also got thinking that a chalk board might look nice. You could leave little notes or even put what is for dinner that night. Yes would love to see a picture when its complete!
