This is the result of using window/glass cleaner on mirror, instead of mirror cleaner. I have the same problem... my cleaners used the wrong product.

    Make a frame around it

Once upon a time they re-silvered mirrors. If it is a good mirror, call a local mirror/glass company to see if they can fix it.

Put a frame around the outside edges. It will cover the black marks, plus dress up your mirror. We did ours with wood molding and wooden bullseyes from our local home center. Glued it on with Loctite mirror glue. You can see the top edge in the picture to give you an idea.

Caused by age and damp conditions. I would either add a wooden picture frame around it or mask it out by using a white or silver Gaffer tape...............

Since I don't think the edges can be 'fixed', consider a decorative covering around the edge. We put a moulding around our bathroom mirror that gives it a framed feel. All you need is a miter box, moulding, some liquid nails and whatever color paint or stain that you like.
