I've seen a lot of things being painted with Chalk Paint. What is the difference between Chalk Paint and for instance, Semi-Gloss Paint?

  Yes, but make sure it is not oil based poly. That’s where water-based polyurethane finishes come in. Known as polycrylics, these finishes are an excellent alternative to use over chalk paint, for several reasons. Mostly they offer more of a permanent, durable finish that does not need to be reapplied. Wax will need to be reapplied over the life of the piece.
