If there is upholstery, take the stool apart and remove the old upholstery and padding. Sand the wood parts and clean everything else. Paint or stain the stool as you want to, but try new colors or stains. Even the metal can be painted if you sand it first. Replace the padding. Use the old upholstery as a pattern for the new. Try a different pattern or color or type of fabric. Attach the new upholstery securely. Voila! A new kitchen stool. Best wishes 😇
Reupholster it. LIghtly sand and then spray paint the metal legs and then after they dry apply a fine coat of polyurtherane to protect them. Do this in the spring and all can be done outside. The fumes can be too much for indoors especially when your house is all closed up in the winter.
